Marina di Casalvelino lies down on the vast plain of the river Alento surrounded by the wide Velia gulf and the mountains Stella and Gelbison which rises beside her shoulders. Lifting softly your eyes it is possible to see the suggestive ruins of the ancient Elea (well known as Velia for the Romans) , only distant 2 kms from the little town.
A warning coasting tower rises on the top of a hill and looks over the port and the beach, sandy on one side and rocky on the other. Historical outlines Undoubtedly of Norman origin, with the name Casalicchio, was feudal theater up to 1282 when it was practically destroyed during the war of the "Vespro". In 1309 it was granted from Cava to Capograsso of Salerno and then surrendered by the Pope to Ladislao in 1410. In 1497 an only feud was created with the earths of the Cilento it dispersed and, to the princes of the XVI century, Casalicchio was commodity of exchange among various noble families, among which the dukes of Laurino. The history repeated him up to 1806, with the abolition of the feudalism.
