The Comune (municipality) of Pollica occupies a central position in the Cilento massif which is included in the perimeter of the Cilento and Vallo di Diano National Park. The Comune is composed of its main town, Pollica and of five outlying districts, two of which, Acciaroli and Pioppi, are on the coast and three of which, Cannicchio, Celso and Galdo are in the hinterland. It extends over hilly and coastal territory, featuring an unusual and evocative variety of scenery. Interesting buildings not to be missed are the Palazzo dei Principi Capano (13th century) and the Convento Francesco (1661).
The country ward of Pioppi is an old fishing village is a rare oasis of tranquillity. The village enjoys the privilege of being located in a zone defined as the "Parco Nazionale del Cilento e Valle di Diana" ("The National Park of the Cilento and Diana Valley") which constitutes a heritage singled out by UNESCO. It has also earned the honour of the European "Blue Flag" and is considered to be one of the best beaches in the whole of Italy.
